Heatstroke in dogs and cats in Casablanca: warning signs
In Casablanca, heat can turn a walk, a wait in a car or a short trip into an emergency. Short-nosed dogs, older pets, young pets and sick animals are more vulnerable.

Early signs
Excessive panting, restlessness, drooling, weakness, abnormal gums, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors or loss of coordination should raise concern.
Thick saliva, a rapid heartbeat, unsteady walking, confusion or collapse indicate deterioration. Brachycephalic pets, overweight animals and those with heart, respiratory or kidney disease are less able to release heat.
When it becomes an emergency
If the pet collapses, has trouble breathing, seems confused or does not recover quickly, call a veterinary emergency service immediately.
Move the pet into shade or air conditioning and call the clinic immediately. If instructed, begin gradual cooling with tepid water and moving air. Ice, very cold water and wrapping the pet in wet towels can interfere with safe cooling.
City prevention
Avoid walks during the hottest hours, provide water, never leave a pet in a car and watch for hot pavement.
Plan walks early in the morning or later in the evening, carry water and choose shaded routes. A parked car can become dangerous very quickly even with a window partly open. Check pavement temperature before a long walk as well.
After a heat episode
Even if the pet seems better, a check may be needed because internal complications are not always visible immediately.
Heatstroke can affect clotting, kidneys, the brain and other organs. Apparent improvement after cooling does not rule out complications. The veterinarian decides whether monitoring, fluids or laboratory tests are needed.
